About Gæsteriet

Dictionary:

Gæsteri, noun. [gæsdəˈri?] plural -er. (Old Danish, same meaning; verbal noun of gæste, to guest/host). In the Middle Ages, gæsteri referred to the obligation to provide travelers with lodging and board. N 55°3’37.235″ E 12°7’15.847” 5 meters above sea level.
Looking straight out toward the Bøgestrømmen strait, in the heart of the idyllic, Morten Korch-esque village of Sandvig, lies Gæsteriet—a natural gathering point along the Berlin-Copenhagen cycle route, the Monk Road (Munkevejen), and the South Zealand Trail (Sydsjællandsleden).
Gæsteriet serves as a pit stop for outdoor and nature experiences in the protected moraine landscape of Sandvig, located approximately 10 km southeast of Præstø, 11 km north of Kalvehave, and west of the Nyord Enge bird sanctuary. Furthermore, Gæsteriet‘s location, with its view of the Nyord Biosphere Reserve, benefits from Dark Sky—a term describing a night sky with little to no light pollution. The area around Sandvig is also characterized by varied landscapes with a particularly high biodiversity of vulnerable and endangered animal and plant species.
Gæsteriet is pesticide-free and sources its goods locally and organically, with a deep awareness of ecological balance and biodiversity. CO2-neutral tourism, hikers, kayakers, sailors, and cyclists can restock and gather supplies in Gæsteriet‘s small pantry courtyard (proviantgård).
